You can't last an organization called Tau Beta Pi together with non celebrate Pi Day on March 14. So that's just what the San Diego chapter of the accolade monastic tell decided to do--by dropping a pie (yes, alongside an e) from the tertiary flooring of the Structural together with Materials Engineering edifice at the Jacobs School.
Students said they were inspired past times UC San Diego's long held tradition of dropping objects from tall buildings, including the Watermelon drib at Revelle College together with the pumpkin drib at Muir College.
So Friday, they dropped a 13-inch, 4.5 lbs pie from the tertiary flooring of the SME building. Students got to swallow a broad multifariousness of pies afterward the drop. As an extra bonus, they could gauge how big of a splatter the pie would brand together with have gift cards. Turns out cherries went flight inwards a circle alongside a 18.2 feet diameter. The closest gauge was 17 feet.
